Not Sure Of What You Want In A Relationship? 4 Tips For Tuning Into Your Inner Self

You don’t really have a type per se. You’ve dated a mix of people before. Blondes, brunettes, and redheads. Long hair, short hair, straight hair, and curly hair. Athletic to techy and everything in between. You feel like you’ve tried them all. Despite all of the differences, there’s one thing they all have in common. It didn’t work out with any of them. You’re ready to date, but you’re not quite sure where to start. You’ve been browsing dating websites, but even you don’t know what you’re looking for.

Not quite sure of what you want in a relationship? That’s okay! Here are 4 tips for tuning into your inner self.

1. Start Meditating

Meditation is one of the easiest and highly effective ways to connect to your inner self. That being said, meditation takes time and practice.

Meditation is a great way to pull all of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions into the present moment. A lot of anxiety and stress actually stems from worrying about things that happened in the past or things in the future that haven’t even occurred yet.

Ground yourself and stay focused on the present moment with the help of meditation. Focus on your breathing. Feel the way your clothes feel against your skin. Pay attention to the smells in the room that you’re in or the sounds that are happening outside of the window. Over time, your brain will start to connect your mind and body. Meditation makes it possible to switch the focus of the external stimuli to the internal ones.

2. Develop a Healthy Body Image

You’ve probably heard the saying, “You can’t love someone else until you love yourself.” Having a negative body image can lead to health problems, both internally and externally.

Poor body image can lead to unhealthy changes in appetite and meals throughout the day. For some, they may start to undereat as a way to overcompensate for how they’re viewing themselves. For others, the stress and anxiety may lead them to binge on sweets and snacks as a way to fill the void that they may be feeling.

Instead of trying to make up for what you feel like you don’t have, try to focus on developing a healthier body image instead. Change your mindset to focus on building muscle instead of focusing on physical flaws. Despite your mind trying to convince you to compare yourself to others, no one is perfect.

3. Increase Your Confidence

Increasing your confidence goes hand in hand with developing a healthier body image. When you’re working on implementing realistic and healthy changes, you will naturally start to feel better about yourself. The same can be said about social skills.

It can be hard to put yourself out there in the dating scene if you’re not feeling confident about yourself. Try to work on improving your social skills so that you can boost your confidence levels. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Get out in public more often. Put yourself in crowded spaces. Practice public speaking. Learn how to deal with rejection. Over time, this will get easier, and your confidence will shine through.

4. Find the Good

It’s important to try to find the good in each day, situation, and interaction. Practicing gratitude can lead to positive emotions. If you approach things with gratitude, you’re more likely to appear confident, hopeful, and patient.

Practicing gratitude is easy. All it takes is switching up your mindset and attitude. For example, instead of stressing out over being late or being stuck in traffic, focus on the great music you’re listening to, the weather, or your surroundings.

When you’re feeling out of control with certain stations, practicing gratitude can make you feel more at ease.

Next Steps

It’s normal to feel negative, worrisome, or fearful from time to time, especially if you’re struggling with confidence, motivation, or self-doubt. Take those negative thoughts and turn them into positive actions.
